A change in theme for this blog edition as I look to self-indulge; someone who is tech savvy is someone who is known to be knowledgeable about technology. With technological advances being so fast paced and with technology coming in all shapes and sizes and impacting on pretty much everything we do, the question of how someone becomes tech savvy is an interesting one.
For the technophobes amongst you the steps below will help you achieve the status of being considered as tech savvy.
7 steps to technological enlightenment:
1. Use Google. Google is your friend. If you have a question about something or need to research a certain topic, a Google search can be a great starting point.
2. Learn about computers. Sources include the internet, E-books, your local library etc. Increase your knowledgebase, i.e. You may want to learn all about how televisions work and as a consumer understand what the differences are between LCD, Plasma and LED televisions. Usenet is a good source for finding out such information and
3. Become an expert. What is something technology-related that interests you and that you enjoy? If you like taking photographs, invest some time in learning about photography.
4. Learn how to treat computer viruses, spyware, and learn how to avoid malware. If you can learn the basics you can consider yourself tech savvy in many people’s eyes.
If you are considering the next few steps the chances are you are already tech savvy.
5. Develop some programming skills or learn a programming language. I started programming in C++ (I was not very good BTW) but when you consider that almost all technology has programming at its core; you can see its value.
6. Become au fait with Linux and/or Unix, quite simply put anyone who knows or understands Unix based operating systems are tech savvy.
7. Join an online community of other tech gurus and don't be afraid to ask questions. There are groups on networking sites such as LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook etc.
