Samsung negotiating sale of PC business with Lenovo

According to a recent article by Cho Mu-Hyun of ZDNet, “Local reports say Samsung Electronics is negotiating to sell its PC business with China’s Lenovo, but the tech giant has dismissed them as false.” Samsung halted PC sales in the European market back in 2014 while Lenovo has been encroaching on HP’s hardware business, so this rumor is not completely unfounded.

The same article reports that a senior executive was quoted to say “printing and PC should be considered to be under the same category and it was the natural next step to sell its PC business as well.” This comes as no surprise since the electronics company recently sold their printer business to HP.

Another consideration is the recent acquisitions made by Samsung including AI-based voice assistant developer Viv and auto-components maker Harman, and focusing on its platform for Internet of Things and component businesses. What does this reflect about the direction of the company? And how will it impact the hardware industry?
